The vines were planted in April 2004 on land behind our home that had once produced avocados and was cleared to the dirt by the massive October 2003 Cedar wildfire. The vines are historic Deaver/California Shenandoah Valley-origin Zinfandel bench grafted to 110R rootstock.
Harvest of the third-leaf fruit was made in four separate vineyard selections, one picking per week, in September 2006. The wine was aged in Appalachian oak barrels to compliment the natural spicy nature of Zinfandel grapes and bottled in August 2008.
